Every year the congregation at Hosanna Lutheran Church come together for a cherished tradition that binds their love for community with a spirit of togetherness and contribution. This year was no exception as, on Sunday, August 27, 2023, the winery crew congregated with the church for their eagerly anticipated annual Grape Harvest event.
The vines that adorn the church’s property bear the remarkable Noiret grapes, a variety renowned for their exceptional qualities. These grapes are the backbone of the winery’s renowned “Luther’s Revenge” wine, a favorite among patrons and connoisseurs alike, available year-round at Shamrock Hills.
This annual Grape Harvest holds special significance beyond the creation of fine wines. It’s a heartwarming collaboration between the vineyard and the church, as the processed grapes find their purpose as Communion wine for the congregation. The connection between the land, the vines, and the spiritual practice brings a unique depth to this shared endeavor.
In an enlightening article featured by Kansas City’s KSHB 41, Pastor Mike Kern of Hosanna Lutheran Church shared his genuine delight in the annual grape harvest. He spoke of the joy radiating among the church members as they partake in this age-old tradition. What started as an event has evolved into a beloved custom that congregants of all ages eagerly await. Pastor Mike Kern highlighted the enthusiasm of the younger participants, explaining how the children look forward to joining the harvest each year, embracing the experience of being hands-on and using the tools of the trade.
For those who wish to be part of this inspiring tradition and share in the rewarding process of harvesting vineyards, Shamrock Hills Vineyard and Winery extends an open invitation. The breathtaking Four Horses and a Dog vineyards will be ready for harvest soon!
