Letter from the Riley’s – April 2025

Happy Spring Everyone!

Spring has finally sprung!  The vines have woken up and we have received bud break on our vines.  What a glorious moment in the vineyard!  Now, if Mother Nature will show us some love and keep away any late freezes from happening—we can prepare for the next stage of vineyard life—nurturing the growth of these vines.  We are especially excited for our St. Vincent Vines—they have surpassed the growth of the other grape varietals over the past few years and are stronger than the others—we are thinking we’ll be able to leave some of the grapes on the vines this year and use it for next year’s St. Vincent wines in collaboration with the grapes we get from Bowmans’ Farm.  Only time will tell.  Now as our grape vines get hardier, and noticeable  to the wild life, it’s time for Chloe and Finnigan to start their vine security job of keeping these creatures away from the vines.  This will be a big job for them.  

As for summer at the winery—we are excited for all that is to come!  We have a lot of great events happening and making space for additional customers to enjoy the patio life and live music.  We just released 8 new wines to our wine club last Friday, April 11th  and 7 new wines to the public on Saturday, April 12th!  We are looking forward to entering several in the Missouri Governor’s Cup this summer as well!  We are going to be at the Weston Wine Festival May 3rd and Excelsior Springs Wine Festival June 7th and the Kansas City River Market on Saturday, June 28th.  Due to staffing, and timing of events, we are selective on the events we attend.  We are hoping to get a few more special pop ups scheduled so stay tuned on where you can find us!

A lot is going on, so grab a glass of your favorite Shamrock Hills Wine and sit back and enjoy this edition of Wining in the Hills!
